Art Guidelines

Your paddling uniform is your signature--let us make it unique to your team!

Your JL paddling kit will be like no other on the water, whether you choose cut-and-sew designs or fully sublimated. The info below will help you understand the process.

Art Pricing and Policies

  • JL has a great team of artists standing by to help bring your ideas to life.
  • Art time (design, layout and setup) is billed at $65 per hour.
  • Free art is available to teams that qualify. Ask your friendly JL rep for details.
  • Those providing their own artwork (proper vector files on our downloaded cartoons) will be billed for the time used for setup (free hour will be applied to setup costs if applicable).

Steps for providing your own artwork

  • Confirm your garment choices with your rep.
  • Download the cartoon templates from the downloads page.
  • Follow the guidelines below.
  • Email all art to your rep. Large files can be sent using this site www.wetransfer.com
  • Our art department will evaluate your files upon receipt. If art time is required to further prepare the art for application, you will be sent an art quote by your rep.
  • Once the art is usable, we will create a cartoon model garment with the actual art placement for your approval.
  • Once the mockups are 100% approved on the main garments, our art department will implement the art onto every garment on your order and send for approval.
  • Once all garments are 100% approved for the design, we will send out a “Miniprint” for color approval. Key fabrics on your order will be represented. Once the colors are approved, we can get your order into production!

Have us design your kit for you!

  • Firstly, work with your rep to make the final garment decisions.
  • Collect all logos/photos wanted on your kit, and provide them to your rep in vector format.
  • Provide your rep with all design ideas in one email.
  • Our art department will evaluate your files upon receipt. If all logos are in the correct format, our artist will put together a mock up based on your design ideas.
  • Your rep will send you the cartoon mockups for approval, or adjustments.
  • Once the main garment cartoons are approved, our art department will implement your artwork onto the rest of the items on your order.
  • Once all garments are 100% approved for the design, we will send out a “Miniprint” for color approval. Key fabrics on your order will be represented. Once the colors are approved, we can get your order into production!

Guidelines for Providing artwork:

  • All art files are required in Adobe Illustrator formats (.ai, .eps). IF neither of those are available, .svg and .pdf are sometimes also vector files, but not always.
  • All colors myst be in CMYK/Pantones. All blacks must be 100% K. No RGB art whatsoever.
  • All logos must be in vector format. If some files are linked, instead of embedded, all linked files must be provided in their original state.
  • All text must be properly preserved; be sure that any typed live text is either outlined or expanded.
  • Do NOT provide logos/text with an Overprint setting (check in the Appearance panel for that).
  • Be sure you have Scale Stroke and Effects checked/Turned on in your General Settings.
  • Save the files in CS5 or earlier format.

JL Manufacturing marks:

  • All JL manufacturers marks are required and cannot be moved or changed. On upper body garments they appear on the right chest. On Bottoms they appear on the outside of the left leg.
  • Inner collars are for JL branding only, and not offered for customization.
  • "Made in USA" is applied to descreet locations near the seam of most garments - this can be made more prominent if desired by you.
